Natural Stone vs. Manufactured Stone Veneer
Let’s take a closer look at the differences between natural and man-made stone.
Manufactured Stone
Manufactured stone has a variety of names – cultured, man-made, and faux. But simply put, this product is synthetic and crafted to look like natural stone. It’s a combination of concrete, aggregates and iron oxides added for color and formed to imitate the look and feel of real stone.
The advantages of manufactured stone veneer:
- Uniform quality
- Light weight (its original advantage when compared to natural stone)
- Easy to work with because of repeat patterns
- Lots of color options
Natural Stone
Quarried from the ground, natural stone is the real deal – all natural with nothing added and no color additives.
The advantages of natural stone veneer:
- Color doesn’t fade and often looks better with age
- Authenticity of real stone
- Less porous than its manufactured alternative
- Very durable
- Lighter weight. With new cutting techniques natural stone can be cut thin to match the weight of manufactured stone.
